The Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung houses the world’s largest collection relating to the Bauhaus (1919–1933) and, as an international research centre, is dedicated to exploring its history and legacy. The museum, designed by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, first opened its doors in 1979. Since 2018, the historic building has been undergoing a conservation-led restoration and is being extended by the Berlin-based architectural practice Staab Architekten with a new wing featuring spacious exhibition galleries and a striking glass tower dedicated to learning and public engagement.
